Day 52! Woohoo!
Today we will focus on the top of the head. Can you relax your skull? Maybe not the bones themselves, but what about all the muscles that make up your scalp?
Between the ears, the top of the nose, your eyeballs, the back of the top of your head. Just imagine drawing a line from the middle of your ears (where the openings are) all the way around your head. We are working from that area and up today.
If you get migraines, you know how tense this part of your body can get. Your eyes cannot handle light, you feel nauseous because of what a migraine does to your brain. You will notice if you pull your fingers around to the back of your head as though you are tracing this imaginary line, there is a bump on the back of your head. Directly behind the middle of your ears, or directly above it.
What is this bump?
We all have one.
Let’s see what the internet says.
CoPilot says “Normal bony structure – The external occipital protuberance (EOP) or inion is a natural bony bump where the skull meets the neck muscles; it’s fixed and usually present since childhood” (source: bump on back of head – Search)
So let us look a little bit deeper. If you want, you can look up “Occipital protuberance” for greater clarity.
As far as this journaling prompt goes, the same rules apply as the past few days.
It’s pretty simple, really.
Just think about this part of your body. How often do you wonder what your scalp needs to relax? How often do you use your curiosity to wonder what the inside of your head looks like?
Aside from just the brain, of course. How is everything connected in there. Why do you get ear aches and eye strain? What happens when your sinuses congest?
Maybe tomorrow we will work our way back down the body, taking into consideration the inner workings of those areas that we just connected with the past few days.
I don’t know what either one of us was expecting when I said 365 days of journaling prompts. I can guarantee, I was not aware that this is where we were going.
If you want to go back to what you would think of as a regular journaling prompt series, just start again at Day 0 and go from there.
It seems like we have reached a new level in our climb up the mountain. Organ wonderings.
It is important to become aware of the organs in your body and how everything works together. This is just one way for us to connect with ourselves within.
My attention is already wandering to my gut.
So for today, just focus on your cranium. External relaxation, inner awareness. Curiosity, care, understanding.
Ask yourself what your body needs today. What can you do to help yourself feel safe and relaxed? Taken care of?
And then, develop an easy plan. Pick one thing to do in the next 10 days. Show yourself you care by following through. So only commit to something you can do.
Get a foot massage, if that calls to you. Why? I don’t know, it just came to mind.
See you tomorrow! 😘
