The final day in this section. Guess what our journaling prompt is today?
Who are the role models that you want to impress the most? How do you want to impress them? What do you want them to see in you? Who would you not want to see you at your lowest? What do you not want them to see?
We all have at least one person in our life that we would not want seeing the worst of us.
Whether it’s a teacher, a mentor, a boss, a coworker, even an employee, or some other person that you look up to, who do you want to see you only at your best?
I’m not talking about crushes, people you’re dating or someone with whom you have a romantic or sexual connection. That’s a different category. Let’s keep them separate, even if the person you’re in love with also inspires you. That’s cute, but it’s not the point of today’s post.
Not wanting someone to see you as ugly so they don’t lose attraction to you is not exactly what I’m describing here. It’s important to me that we make this distinction and stay in the right lane.
Do you have anyone in your life that you respect so deeply, you will always show up early for a meeting with him or her? You will put in all of the effort to make sure that he or she sees you as responsible, capable, caring, kind, trustworthy, peaceful, able to complete any task effectively, and all of the best qualities that you believe a human should embody? Someone that you would shapeshift for a million times if it would help you earn their admiration and/or respect?
I think we all need a role model like that in our lives. It is what helps us continue to strive for something as we grow older.
And our parents, as much as they may hope that they could be this person (or these people), they can’t be everything to us. Especially when they aren’t willing nor able to see the best in us, no matter what we show them.
So, with today being the last day of this section about Purpose, I want you to think: who is your greatest role model? If you had the chance to have lunch with him or her, how would you show up? What lengths would you go to to arrange the meeting? What kind of energy would you want the experience to have? What would you hope to gain from this – whether it’s insight, wisdom, a newfound sense of confidence and self-worth, a job offer, a referral or a network connection, admiration, approval, or something else?
And why aren’t you treating every possible connection in your life with the same respect, admiration, and honor? What did this person do to earn this respect and admiration from you?
If you were given the chance to be this type of role model for someone else who was walking in your shoes, would you take it? What would that experience be like for you? Would it be uncomfortable, overwhelming, flattering, or something else entirely?
