Continuing with the theme of who your origin self truly is, I want you to write about your Origin Self’s hobbies.
If you need a little bit more help understanding the concept of your “Origin Self” vs your “Plain Clothes Persona” vs your “Super Hero Self”, think of the movie ‘Avatar’.
You know how ‘Avatar’ was about humans getting into these machines and operating their ‘Avatar’ bodies to blend in with the Navi on Pandora?
Think of the “humans” as the Origin Self, or in this case the True Self. The Navi Avatar bodies were the “Plain Clothes Persona”. The “Super Hero Self” would have been like if Jake Sully dressed his Navi self (Tsyeyk Suli) up in a costume and ran around like the Batman or Wonderwoman of Pandora. Maybe he did end up being a Super Hero there in the end. I’m not sure, exactly.
But I want you to try to imagine who you were before you became a Super Hero. Where did you come from? What were you like back then?
What did that part of you enjoy doing for fun? Not for work. Not to earn a living. Not to make society or the world a better place. Just for the sheer fun and enjoyment of it.
The thing I love about writing is that money is never a source of limitation in your imagination unless you want it to be. So your Origin/True Self could have Really Expensive Hobbies, like driving race cars so fast they explode but you always come out unharmed. And you used to do this every weekend because it was the most fun thing on your planet to get into, to you. Not everybody liked it, but everyone who did enjoy it gets along really well. Since we are using our imagination to play, we don’t have to imagine unnecessary tension or conflict. I prefer to play where there isn’t much of those things, if any at all.
What kind of hobbies does your True Self enjoy? Let yourself dream and imagine that you are having the most fun you’ve ever imagined having in your whole entire life.
You can, if you want to, write about your friends and the people that you engaged in these pastime activities with. Share their backstories, personalities, what made you friends. Or you can focus entirely on you. Maybe the friends and family will be tomorrow’s journaling prompt…hmm…
